Looking to make a move in 2019? This lovely house with 6 double bedrooms, 3 additional rooms and an annex, offers very flexible living accommodation.   It is set in spacious grounds and would provide a lovely family home with plenty of room for bedrooms and playrooms, making it a dream for children to explore.

The annex could provide accommodation for an older child or the possibility of giving an older relative the personal space they require while still being part of the family home.  At one stage, the house was a Bed and Breakfast establishment so this should give you an indication of the possibilities for this property.

Built circa 1450 it is a beautiful and rambling renaissance property which is full of history, having once housed the local abbot and then reputedly becoming a Court House, it has now for some years been a comfortable family home.

The rather grand house comprises two wings and a central section, which is also a separate annex and has various outbuildings.

On the ground floor, the grand entrance hall runs the length of the house and has a staircase at either end taking you up to the bedrooms. Opposite the entrance is an impressive timber panelled dining room which has vast mullion windows looking onto the rear gardens.  Off the entrance hall there is also a formal drawing room with panelled walls and, a comfortable sitting room with an open sandstone fireplace.  To the rear of the house is the kitchen/breakfast room which has an Aga stove and plenty of units and works surfaces.  On this floor is also a second kitchen/utility room and access can be gained to the downstairs annex room which is complete with en-suite bathroom.

Upstairs, and one of the key features to the house is the master bedroom which is an impressive 17ft square with high vaulted ceilings and mullion windows with a view of the rear gardens, this is served by an en-suite bathroom.  There are also two further bedroom with en-suite facilities.  The final three bedrooms on this floor have the use of the two family bathrooms.

The top floor is reached via stairs lined by bookcases and houses two further bedrooms/playrooms or storage rooms.

To the front is a large drive with ample parking and a pleasant lawn all surrounded with mature shrubs. To the rear are two generous lawned areas, again with mature shrubs.  There is an additional parking area to the rear of the property with space for a caravan, boat or possibly for a garage with the right permissions.

Owners Opinion:

We have spent many happy years in Portbury Priors.  Our children grew up here and it was a bit of a children's paradise with plenty of space for hide and seek, for playrooms, and with large gardens for them to expend their energy.  In fact, it was a bit of an idyll for our children and they even talked us into keeping a pony in the garden at one time.  We look back with great affection at the times we have enjoyed here, especially the gatherings with friends and family, and one year we had 23 people stay for Christmas - that was one of many big family parties.  However, with the children all grown up and with families of their own, the house is now a little too large and so it is time to look to downsize and move on.  We will be very sad when it is time to leave our home but we hope that another family will have the opportunity to grow here and have as many happy times as we have.

Location:

Portbury Priors is situated in the village of Portbury which is convenient for Junction 19 of the M5 motorway, and is a short drive from both Clifton Village with its eclectic range of independent boutiques and restaurants and the vibrant Portishead Marina with its range of restaurants and shops including a Waitrose.  The locality offers a selection of both private and state schooling, including Clifton College, Clifton High School, Bristol Grammar School and Portbury Primary C of E School.
